The Church

Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;

Ephesians 5 : 25

When someone believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, they are automatically

  • Members of the one and only body (the body of Christ). (1 Corinthians 12:27)
  • Part of the one and only church (the assembly). (Ephesians 5:25)
  • Are in the one and only scriptural fellowship (the apostles’ fellowship). (1 Corinthians 1:9)

Why would  anyone want to leave this wonderful position for an unscriptural man made one?

Though it is impossible for a christian to stop being a member of the body or stop being part of the church, they can leave the Apostles fellowship for a man made fellowship which,

  • Breaks the unity of the the Spirit. (Ephesians 4:3)
  • Quenches the Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 5:19)
  • Leaves the fellowship of the Apostles which is with the Father and the Son. (1 John 1:3)
  • Leaves the Apostles doctrine. (Acts 4:42)
  • Becomes part of a sect (a division), which is carnal. (1 Corinthians 3:4)
  • Sows discord among brethren, which God hates. (Proverbs 6:16-19)
  • Supports heresy. (1 Corinthians 11:18-19)
  • Is not keeping the word and/or denies the name of the holy and true one. (Revelation 3:8)
  • Loses the blessing of being gathered to the name of the Lord alone. (Matthew 18:20)

Many are involved with a sect because they do not know what one is nor do they know how strongly the scripture opposes dividing the Lord’s people into smaller groups, smaller than the one body. If we want to be marked by the unity that Christ so desires for His church, it is of first importance to be clear about what a sect is.

May we ever keep in mind the importance of receiving every Christian who is walking uprightly and not denying the doctrine of Christ.
