Marks of a Christian Sect – Wisdom Will Die With You

Christian Sects think

they possess superior Wisdom

Sects …they would exclude you…

Job 12:2

No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

Marks of a Christian Sect: Teaching or Discipline

Ephesians 5:23 – 24,

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

The woman is a type of the Church the man a type of Christ. I suffer not a woman to teach.

JND “God, not the Church”, Collected Writings of J.N. Darby: Ecclesiastical 4

That the church ever taught is a fable; apostles, prophets, teachers, did. What was taught “in the beginning” we have in their writings through the gracious care of our God.

See also: 1 Corinthians 14:34, 1 Timothy 2:12

Church discipline and church teaching cannot be separated they are the same thing and wholly unheard of in the New Testament. This is a system, or Christian sect, protecting itself.

Please note this is not the putting away of a “wicked person” as noted above.

Marks of a Christian Sect: Fear mongering

Promoting fear to maintain a following and or telling gossip or propaganda that people did something wrong in order to turn people away from the apostles’ fellowship to prop up their group.

3 John 10

…prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

The apostle has to correct some of this message.

3 John 12

Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

The truth meant something to those believers, who were cast out of Diotrephes’ assembly, and they were not about to start their own system, for this they were cast out of Diotrephes’ assembly, system or sect. Truth will be a threat to every sect.  A sect’s supporters will go to great lengths to discredit the truth, or the person who brings the truth.

The system or leadership won’t give that position up without a huge fight and will even tell lies to have it their way for the “greater good” of preserving the group.

Christian Sects often maintain a boundary of fear so that they have “as merchandise” the souls of their members.

Revelation 18:12 – 13

The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, …. and slaves, and souls of men.

Marks of a Christian Sect: Teaching that make it hard or cruel to exit to instill fear to those who remain

Any time you have a system it will try to preserve itself sometimes going to extremes.

A group or a Christian sect loves to quote scripture.  Often they abuse John 6:67 to persuade members to stay because of guilt.

Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.

The message is that if you go away from “our group”, then you won’t have such a blessing, because this is the sect that the Lord has “endorsed”.

Groups can do cruel things if members will not go along with it, cutting off friends and family. The message is clear if you aren’t going to be part of our group you aren’t going to be part of our lives. We all know of some extreme examples Scientology, Catholic Church, Jehovah Witness, but it exists everywhere with Baptists and Brethren groups also. Paul speaks about this in Galatians 4:17

They are not rightly zealous after you, but desire to shut you out from us, that ye may be zealous after them.

Unity instead of being a Christian Sect

If we do not want to be a Christian sect marked by having its own wisdom in contrast with God’s, there must be a Christian unity that we should endeavor to maintain, the unity that the Lord prayed for when He said, “that they all may be one.”

He first speaks about the apostles.

John 17:11

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

Then He speaks about us.

John 17:20-21

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one;

The only fellowship that is sanctioned by scripture is the fellowship that we all can have with the apostles. This lets us be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Acts 2:42

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship,

1John 1:3

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us (the apostles): and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
